Hello everyone and welcome back to Deeper Waters. While here, we have been lately going through the doctrine of God, I’m going to take a break from that for today. Here in America, it’s Memorial Day. We are remembering those who have fallen in combat so that our country could be free. I admit that I don’t do as much as I should for Memorial Day, but I do hope my one blog here will suffice for a tribute.
Go by and graveyard and t...
I’m pleased to announce a contest.
Last week I was sharing the concepts behind Your Secret Name with my friend Connie and she told me about a song she sings in church called “I will Change your Name.”
She said that my book paralleled nicely with the song.
I immediately searched and found the song and was blown away by the lyrics.
The music is a little dated, but the words cut right to the core.

I left this as a comment on a previous post, and thought I should share it here:
I think that the announcement/proclamation of the good news of Jesus Christ to unbelievers is of utmost importance. I think this is the type of proclamation (i.e. “preaching”) that we see in the New Testament. I also think that this NT form of proclamation has little (if any) resemblance (in form, content, or context) to what is normally called “preaching...
People like explanations. They like to explain things and have things explained to them.
When it comes to “theology” – what we think about God, which would include what we think about ourselves, others, and the world around us – we really, really like to have things explained to us. Unfortunately, Scripture doesn’t always explain things the way that we want them explained.
So, we explain them. Or, our favorite theolo...
I have never encountered many hyper-Calvinists on this blog. Occasionally I will have about one or two e-mails a year from hyper-Calvinists who go beyond the Calvinism say of John MacArthur or many Calvinist bloggers and they embrace what they see as the full sovereignty of God in determining all things. Hyper-Calvinists have no problem saying that God is the author of sin, the He determined the Fall of Man and even caused the Fall (Genesis 3)....
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9I always cringe when I meet someone who simply has all the answers about God. They can tell you everything about God, His ways, His Word, His creation, His attributes, etc. They have figured God out and that scares me. It ...
This time from Dave Black (today, May30, 2010 at 1:38 p.m.):
As a culture, the Western church is enslaved by a worship of preachers and preaching. This anthropocentricity is one of the greatest stumbling blocks to the Gospel. Know something? There were no “sermons” in the churches of the New Testament. The concept of a well-crafted 30-minute homily carefully alliterated with three points simply did not exist. Now, I am not denying tha...
Hello everyone and welcome back to Deeper Waters as we continue our dive into the ocean of truth. We’ve been going through the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas in our goal to understand the doctrine of God in Christian theology. Spurgeon called this the highest thought any Christian could ponder and he was right. What could be pondered that could be greater than God? In Anselmian thought, that would be God, to which I could agree. If ...
Here is a link to a discourse by James Arminius on the sufficiency and perfection of the Scriptures. While some today want to deny the inerrancy and authority of the Bible, I find comfort that men and women of old stood firm for this blessed doctrine. My prayer is that Arminians today would continue to embrace the full authority and inerrancy of the Bible following in the footsteps of Arminius in doing so. You can find the discourse here. ...
This is the 108th passage in “Scripture… As We Live It“:
For not only has the word of the Lord your “launch” plan sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God mass mailing has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. (1 Thessalonians 1:8 re-mix)
