This is one of my favorite pictures from Ethiopia. At least, it’s probably in my top 100 favorite pictures.
Seriously, I really like this picture. I’ll explain to our church tomorrow why I like this picture, and I’ll explain on my blog next week.
Until then, anyone (besides Danny or Dave Black) wanna guess why this is one of my favorite pics? (Click the image below for a larger view.)

My good friend Eric (from “A Pilgrim’s Progress“) has published a post called “Thoughts on Mission.” Apparently, while I was in Ethiopia, Eric was in Rochester, NY.
Reading Eric’s post about what he learned during his trip, I realized that I’ve learned many of the same lessons. Apparently we were doing very similar work (helping churches) on opposite sides of the world.
Here are the main points that Eric ...
There are few things cuter than listening to my kids try to say certain words. I couldn’t help but capture Gage trying to say squash after he had just woofed down his mother’s squash casserole.
And yes, sometimes I snort when I laugh.

Sadly this picture just about sums up much of modern Western Christianity these days. From "dumbed" down Bible translations to poorly written books to theologically lacking pulpits to prayerless churches, the Western Church needs a touch from God. We need Him to come in power and glorify His name that all the earth may tremble before our God. I do believe that we serve the one true and living God and that all other gods are idol...
My friend Dan from Canada… I mean Maine… (at “The Ekklesia in Southern Maine“) was very nice to continually remind everyone to pray for Danny and me while we were in Ethiopia. If you remember (see my post “Looking for Ekklesia in Southern Maine“), Dan and his wife Stephanie has been seeking Christian fellowship in the Portland, Maine area.
Now, according to Dan’s update, it seems that God is bringing peop...
Under the terms of the new covenant, worship goes on all the time, including when the people of God gather together. But mutual edification does not go on all the time; it is what takes place when Christians gather together. Edification is the best summary of what occurs in corporate singing, confession, public prayer, the ministry of the Word, and so forth. (D.A. Carson, Worship by the Book)

Energion Publications has been very good to me. They have sent me several free books that I was interested in reading in exchange for posting a review on my blog. Note, they never asked me to post a good review, only a review.
So, a few weeks ago, when Aaron asked me to review another book for them, I could not refuse, even though the topic is not one that I normally read or write about. He soon sent me a free review copy of Preserving Democracy ...
I’m discovering more and more that it’s embarrassingly difficult for me to be with just God.
I love the idea.
I know the importance.
But I often find myself carving time out to be in His presence only to be drawn away by this gnawing urge to return as quickly as possible to “productivity.”
Why is this so difficult for me?
The idea of slowing down and halting productivity long enough to look at my life and heart co...
This is continued from my post from yesterday where I begin to address the differences between Pelagianism and Arminianism. Sadly some Calvinists have incorrectly stated that Arminians have much in common with Pelagianism or semi-Pelagianism but this is not the case as you will see from reading the works of Arminius. In this excerpt from Arminius we see that he distances himself from his critics who, even in his lifetime, were incorre...
