I plan on offering a response to Roger Olson over at his blog concerning his rejection of the inerrancy of the Bible. Olson prefers to avoid the term "inerrancy" and prefers infallibility of the Bible instead. In other words, Olson allows for errors regarding science, history, geography, numbers, etc. but not about things concerning salvation, God, or Jesus. Some how, these remain truthful but the others are not since they are not as important in terms to eternity. I see many problems associated with such a view but I will hold out for another post when I have a bit more time. For now, I agree with the following article by Tim Challies regarding inerrancy. I think he does a good job of presenting arguments for inerrancy and he answers some of the criticism that Olson offered on his blog.
A.W. Tozer said, "The Bible was written by men who shed their blood for it and its only through tears that it reveals its truth." Millions of people have died for the truths of the Bible and men such as William Tyndale went to his death for the publication of the Bible in the English tongue. Olson would say that Tyndale was foolish to do so. Die for Christ, yes! Die for the Bible, no! But I believe that only in the Bible do we learn about Christ and if we can't trust what the Bible says about ALL things, how can we trust the Bible for just issues regarding Jesus? Perhaps the Bible is not inerrant regarding Jesus either?
