I’ve been in a bit of a creative slump lately. Now, that’s not the end of the world… unless you write a weekly message, a daily blog post, a host of articles and you’re trying to put together a book proposal. In that case, it’s kind of miserable.
But I’ve recently had a bit of a breakthrough of sorts. When in a creative slump I’ve often thought of it as a “block.” If you camped outside of my...

I just finished a great book entitled “Almost Isn’t Good Enough” from my friend Wayne Elsey. Wayne is the founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. This amazing non profit has given away more than twelve million shoes in the past few years and has generated more than $75 million in contributions while keeping their administrative costs at two percent.
His book talks about what’s possible when one person resolves to ...
To be honest, for much of my ministry I’ve played a mental game that has wreaked havoc on my self-confidence and distracted me from God’s unique call on my life. I call it the “I Wish” game.
I wish I could lead like Jeff Henderson.
I wish I was creative like Ben Arment.
I wish I could preach like Perry Noble.
I wish I could cast vision like Steven Furtick.
I wish I could network like Brad Lomenick
But comp...
I think over some of the BIG things in my life:
Meeting and marrying my wife Kelly
Discovering we were pregnant when we were convinced we weren’t
Coming to Grace Church in Powell (9 years ago)
Getting signed by Zondervan
Finding the right house
Landing my largest speaking gig
All these things came to me in a way I couldn’t have orchestrated or manipulated.
Here me out….I’m not saying the time leading up to those choices ...
My new life in Christ only started a year ago. I had plenty of time to taste what this world has to offer and I must say until 12 months ago it was exactly what I was looking for. In my younger years I grew up in a “Christian” home. Church every Sunday, bible study every weekday. Church was just another place for my parents to be parents and me to be a kid. My father used to go door to door preaching the urgency of salvation to those ...

On vacation last week I walked past a certain tree all week on the way down to the boat without thinking twice.
Then on the last day I actually looked at it.
I did a double take, unsure of what I was looking at.
At first it looked like an evergreen.
Then it looked like a….well not an evergreen.
Upon closer examination I discovered it was three trees in one.
It reminded me of lesson in leadership.
The way we lead communicates who we are.

Someone asked me the other day, “Pete, what’s the most important leadership lesson you’re learning these days?”
Lately it seems like my learning curve when it comes to leading is pretty steep.
I have to laugh sometimes because I’m confident I make more mistakes in an average week than most people do in a year. Because of this I’m learning a ton every day. However, at the top of my list I would say right now I’m ...
